At their annual conference in Honolulu the Retail Merchants of Hawaii (RMH) honored Maui’s Surfing Goat Dairy with the 2008 Ho’okela Award for Retail Business of the Year Maui. Ho’okela means to strive to excellence. This accolade recognizes an outstanding business that has contributed to the success and vitality of the retail industry in Hawaii. Mitchell Nishimoto, First Hawaiian Bank’s Senior Vice-President and Regional Director for Maui County, nominated the Kula Dairy in June, one of over 40 Award nominations this year. “We were so honored when we got the letter that we are selected because of our superior performance from among all these outstanding candidates ”, owner Thomas Kafsack said. Founded in 1901, RMH is a state wide, not-for-profit trade association committed to the growth and development of the retail industry in Hawaii. The retail industry is the largest single generator
of General Excise Tax revenue and employs almost 20% of the workforce in the
state of Hawaii. |
